OFFICIAL 8330 OS 5.0.0.430 from Boost Mobile

That’s right Curve fans. Those of you still running the original Curve (CDMA version only) can finally take advantage of a better browser (than OS 4.5 anyway), threaded SMS and a host of upgrades for your devices.

The 8330 Curve is the lowest end BlackBerry device that will receive that 5.0 OS update due to the fact that it has 96 MB of RAM where it’s 8300, 8310, and 8320 siblings only have 64.

The Year 2009 In Review

The year 2009 is about to come to an end, and what a banner year it has been for cel phones in general and especially BlackBerries.

Android, a fledgling upstart OS has come into it’s own, expanding the handset and carrier selection, as well as making the OS a lot more user friendly. Palm came out of obscurity with the new WebOS device operating system (too bad the hardware is so cheap, and they are on a dead end carrier). Apple iPhone finally got MMS and push notifications so they can at least pretend like they are multitasking.

And then there is RIM. Ah RIM, everyone’s favorite whipping boy it seems. RIM has had the most promising year of all, though critics are reluctant to admit it.

A year ago the two devices to have were the Bold 9000 on GSM carriers, and Storm 9530 on CDMA carriers.

OFFICIAL BBM Update: 5.0.0.55

RIM has just released an update for their native BlackBerry Messenger application!

The new upgrade is to 5.0.0.55 and is now available for download from BlackBerry.com . Expect to see it in AppWorld tomorrow.

This one is only for OS 4.7 and up like the last one and remember to back up your contacts before installing. Demand for this is going to be high so if you get errors on the download, try again later or wait for a mirror to show up in the forums or comments.

Verizon Storm2 First Impression Review

I’ve been using the Storm2 for a couple weeks now and have gotten the hang of the device and have it customized to my usage patterns and thought I should take a few minutes to go over my impressions thus far.

As a whole I really like the Storm2!

The BlackBerry Bold 9700

Is it just me or does this seem like a CDMA Tour with the Bold processor, a trackpad and slightly redesigned chassy?  Surely not worth all of the hype it’s getting on CrackBerry. Am I wrong here?

Tell me I am wrong here?

THE “PERFECT STORM” HAS ARRIVED!

Well not perfect, but with all of the media using the analogy I couldn’t resist.

Yes, that means that my very own Storm2 has arrived and I’ve been busy playing with it.

Over the next couple days or so I will be posting various articles detailing my observations about it but I had to take a moment to let you all know that UPS has safely delivered it and that I was busy playing with . .err testing it out.

I will share a few short observations however.

1. It is heavier than the original Storm, not much but enough to be noticible.
2. It is running almost the same OS version number as the official Verizon update to the Storm1 (OS 5.0.0.328) 5.0.0.320.
3 The Signal indicator uses the 3G indicator instead of the 1XEV that the Storm 1 does.
4. It comes with a 16 GB memory card VS the Storm 1’s 8GB.

That’s all for now. I’m busy installing apps and playing . . err testing out this baby and will report back soon with an unboxing, more detailed initial observations, as well as a comparison of the Storm 1 running OS 5.0 and Storm 2. From my initial observations, it will be a pretty close choice for those looking to savee a few bicks.

OFFICIAL MR2 — OS 5.0.0.328 For Verizon BlackBerry Storm 9530

For those who have not heard yet Veirozon has taken the first plunge and released the first official OS 5.0 upgrade for a BlacckBerry Device in the form of OS 5.0.0.328 for the BlacvkBerry Storm. Mysterious since this is only a latter of days before the Storm 2 hits. Once the Storm 1 gets the 5.0 upgrade the two devices will be identical other than WiFi (for all the Verizon haters out there), more memory, a redesigned touch screen, and some other minor structural changes. Surely this will eat into the Storm 2 sales so one is left to wonder what they were thinking.2009_10_26_21_25_17

BlackBerry Tour Woes

After I wrote my first review of the Tour, my excitement about this great device turned to frustration as the very first night I got it I had the first of many “Reload Software error 553″ errors which of course require a complete software reload and data restore from your most recent backup if you have one.  I didn’t get this error only from beta software or incompatible themes, which are generally the cause of this error. No the problem was caused by simply upgrading and installing VZW and RIM approved apps.
